Starting this winter, all French ski resorts will become smoke-free areas. This nationwide change aims to protect everyone’s health, especially that of young people, while preserving the mountain environment. Smoking is now prohibited:
on the ski slopes
in queues
on all ski lifts (including chairlifts).
Why this measure?
- To protect children and limit passive smoking.
- To preserve the mountains: cigarette butts are the number one type of litter found on the slopes.
- Because a single cigarette butt takes more than 10 years to degrade and can pollute up to 500 litres of water.
